Rev David Westmoreland

David married his lovely wife, Lisa, over 44 years ago. They have a son, Alex, and two grandsons, Wyatt and Allister. He was born and raised in Axton, VA and currently resides in Martinsville, VA. He has been in ministry since 2002. He was called to ministry early on, but tried to deny it til the Walk of Emmaus in March 1998. :God used that tool to convince me of His love for me and I said yes to His call on my life." Mt Vernon UMC will be his third appointment. David loves to cook, fish, hike and spend time outdoors.

Stacy Nunley, Administrative Assistant

Stacy Nunley is a local resident who has lived in Kentucky and North Carolina as well before returning to her homwtown. She is a widow with 7 children ranging from age 17-17. For many years she was the wife of a minister. Now she serves as the administrative assistant at two churches, with the other bring St Luke's UMC. Hobbies include a love of the sport of hockey, supporting her children, including theatre, and a love of her pets.

Samuel Freedman, Organist & Choir Director

Sam was born and raised in Durham, NC. He is currently attending Averett University as an Aviation major. He is also on the volleyball team. He has played piano since 2011 and the organ since 2020. We are blessed to have him on the Mt Vernon UMC staff.

Thomas Underwood, Youth Director

Thomas is a life long member of Mt Vernon UMC. He is the middle and high school youth director and lookin forward to an impactful year. He is also the chair of the Health & Sports Science department at Averett University. He is married to his lovely wife and they have two children, all serving at Mt Vernon. A family growing together in their faith- what a praise!

Toni Stewart, Director of Children's House Daycare

Toni has been a part of the Children's House family since 2016 in the preschool room. She was the assistant director since August 2025. She has been happily married for almost 28 years. She is the proud mom of two children, a son working with UVA and a daughter at a local food establishment as a Genereal Manager. Her deep love and passion for children is a blessing to this ministry of Mt Vernon.

Miranda Glassburn, Deputy Director Children's House

Miranda is a proud wife of 14 years and a mother to four wonderful children (2 boys & 2 girls). She has been working with children of various ages since 2011. She has her international Montessori teaching certificate and has been with CHildren's House since 2022. Her belief that every child should have a safe, loving, and engaging environment to grow and thrive is a vital asset to the program here.
